Monster High Dolls - The Monster Smash Hit From Mattel

For all you doll fans out there this is exciting news! Monster High Dolls are the latest creation from Mattel who have just launched a line of dolls that are part of a full entertainment franchise. Monster High Dolls are the cool hip teenage children of the world's most famous monsters. They all attend Monster High of course and experience all the teenage awkward moments like trying to fit in and making friends. At last something a bit different which will appeal to a lot of girls.

Monster High Dolls have a touch of weirdness about them but it's done with humor and lots of style. They all look fabulous and have great fashion sense. Each doll comes with a pet, an accessory, a brush, a stand and a diary with a secret code that can unlock things on the website. The code gives you inside information on new characters, games and activities. The characters are all unique in style and also have a freaky flaw that is a big part of their personality such as Draculaura not being able to see her reflection in a mirror. So far Mattell hasn't released a full range of dolls clothes but that is all to come. In the meantime Bratz clothes will fit the Monster High gang even though they are a bit bigger than Bratz. All the dolls are articulated and the arms pull apart for easy dressing. For this reason and the fact that the earrings come off makes these dolls unsuitable for smaller kids. The good news for the younger kids is there is a plush version of the dolls. Yes, Mattel has thought of everything.

As I mentioned before Mattel is planning huge things for the Monster High franchise. The website is already there where you can check out 3 minute animated webisodes. Mattel is planning to release a further collection of dolls called "Dawn Of The Dance" where the dolls will be wearing 80's style clothes to the school dance. A full live action feature film is coming out with Universal pictures which will propel Monster High even further.

Of course a Universal Picture can't be released without a full range of clothes, handbags, shoes, fashion accessories, hair accessories, jewelry, socks, slippers, costumes, you name it Monster High will have it. There's a series of Monster High books written by Lisi Harrison who is the New York Times #1 best selling young adult author which will be released over the coming years. An animated 30 minute special is coming featuring music from "American Idol" star Allison Iraheta.

Twilight has launched a worldwide phenomenon with vampires and werewolves but there's a whole demographic of kids that are just a bit too young for that but are just as equally fascinated by all things ghoulish. Monster High will definitely appeal to them. The Monster High franchise and in particular the Monster High Dolls are going to be a monster smash hit.

Music Evokes Emotion and Influences How We Perceive the World

Music has an undeniable power to evoke emotion. Music is present at every important social gathering - weddings, funerals, birthdays, inaugurations and more. Every 'normal' human being responds to music's mysterious ability to tap into the boundless ocean that is human emotion. Music even calls into question the long-standing notion that there is one objective reality which can be accurately perceived. Music brings up fundamental questions such as...

Music Evokes Emotion and Influences How We Perceive the World

Is music a basic human need like shelter, food and meaningful work?

Such questions cut to the very core of human nature. Answers to these questions would help to clarify the unique role of music in our lives.

Music Impacts Our Emotions

It has been shown in research that different types of music evoke different emotional reactions (in most people). For example, Lewis, Dember, Schefft and Radenhausen determined the effects of music versus videos on several assessments of mood - the Optimism/Pessimism Questionnaire, the Multiple Affect Adjective Check List, and the Wessman-Ricks Elation and Depression Scale (1). Experts rated a number of songs and videos as either positive or negative. The study found that songs had a major impact on the emotional state of the listener, yet the videos did not. Not surprisingly, music that was rated positively increased participants' positive moods. It was exactly the opposite for negative (i.e., sad) music. As you may have guessed, the mood of a piece of music tends to induce similar emotions in the listener.

Chastain, Seibert, and Ferraro (2) backed up these findings and found that certain music narrowed participants' attention. It was found that participants attended to and recalled words that matched the mood of the music. In and of itself, this is not surprising.

Music Influences How We See Inanimate Objects

More surprising are the results reported by Stratton and Zalanowski (3) where the mood of the music influenced how participants perceived paintings. The music influenced participant emotion and emotion influenced perception. In the study, paintings were paired together with music. Each piece of music was either depressing or positive in the emotion it evoked per the experts. Participants rated the emotions evoked by the paintings as well as the songs. Participants categorized the paintings by the type of music to which the listened, but not vice versa. In other words, paintings rated as sad by experts were perceived as sad by participants when paired with sad music. Yet those same paintings were perceived as positive when paired with happy music; the same findings were reported when positive paintings were paired with happy or sad music, respectively.

Amazingly, the way in which we perceive a seemingly static object is not as clear-cut as first thought. The emotions invoked by music influence not only our ears, but our eyes as well. Emotions most likely influence every one of our senses (i.e., smell, touch, taste, and mind).

Music Affects How We Perceive Others

If emotions and music can influence our senses and how we perceive objects around us, do they also influence how we view other people? They do. Music seems to prime our minds to perceive people in a similar emotional light.

In a fascinating study, Bouhuys, Bloem and Groothuis looked at the extent to which music influences how participants read the facial expression of emotions of others (4). Studies have demonstrated that normal people are quite good at correctly identifying the emotion on a person's face (without music). Yet listening to music can lead one to believe that an individual's face looks more happy or sad than it really is. For instance, a slow tempo, melancholy song can influence participants to believe that a person looks sad even when they are expressing no emotion at all. On the other hand, when participants listen to faster tempo, upbeat, elevating music, they believe a neutral face is more or less happy. Music has a significant effect on how we perceive the world.

Although it is not clear why music has such an influence on our emotions, mood and behaviors, it seems clear that music does alter how we perceive the world around us.

Temporary emotions caused by music change what we pay attention to, what we perceive, and how we interact with others. It brings into question the notion that there is one objective reality that can ultimately be accurately perceived.

Line Dance Instructions - What Clothes Do Line Dancers Wear?

There are as many different styles of clothing worn for line dancing as there are people who line dance.

When you're watching a movie on TV and they show some people line dancing, usually in some little cafe in the back of beyond, the women are usually wearing tight jeans, a belt, and a very fitted shirt with the buttons open half way down the front! The men will be dressed about the same, with their shirts buttoned all the way to their neck, and sometimes one of those little string ties, and almost always they will be wearing a hat, even indoors. Of course, they will all be wearing those nice, big heavy boots that they put on that morning to do their chores.

Dance

In Hawaii, the women who came to the classes where I took line dance instructions wore very short, twirly skirts, crop tops or fitted fancy t-shirts, tights or panty hose, and line dance boots, which are much lighter than regular boots and have a smooth sole so you don't stick to the dance floor. They almost always decorated their boots with a "boot bracelet", on one boot only, which sparkled when they danced.

Line Dance Instructions - What Clothes Do Line Dancers Wear?

The men, as a rule, dressed much the same as the men in the movies. The "George Strait" look was very popular. Actually, so was the "Collin Raye" look, and one of our dancers actually won a Collin Raye look-alike contest.

Of course, being in Hawaii, you would have people show up for class in shorts, tank tops, and "rubber slippers." They would soon discover that this just did not work for line dancing. Sometimes, they would just abandon their rubber slippers and try to dance barefooted, which was a little bit better, but they had to be careful for splinters in the wood floor. It made doing the line dance steps a bit awkward. Most of them, if they returned for another class, would at least bring the proper boots!

Sometimes I would wear a long, flowing skirt because I liked to dance "Waltz Across Texas" to Collin Raye's "Dreamin' My Dreams of You" and I loved the way the skirt swirled when I twirled!

When the dance team performed in public, in the shopping malls, the parks at events or even PowWows, or at the resorts for the tourists, they had costumes they wore. The blouses of the women and the shirts of the men would all be the same. The women would add short skirts, tights, and boots to their "look" and the men would all wear jeans and big belts, boots, and hats. They all looked just great and very professional. A lot of times when they performed, they would have to pack a foldable wooden floor with them because it was impossible to dance on grass or asphalt parking lots. They even took a large flatbed truck to a shopping mall and danced above the crowd and then invited people up for line dance instructions. It was always a lot of good, clean fun!

No matter what they wore, everyone always had a good time and, if the event was in the parking lot of a shopping center, we all would go to Baskin Robbins afterward for some ice cream!

What To Wear on a Social Dance Floor

While there is no golden rule regarding what to wear on the social dance floor, the rule of thumb would be to wear something that is comfortable and not cumbersome. Keep in mind that not matter what the season, winter, spring, summer or fall, chances are that you will be quite warm, if not hot while dancing. You need to have freedom of movement without worry!

Ladies:
o Keep in mind that you will be spinning, turning and raising your arms. Clothing that needs constant readjustment will not make for a happy dance. You will feel self conscious and uncomfortable if your dress or top keeps rising up too high or gets "stuck". You also don't want to be worried about "things" falling out.
o In casual settings Capri jeans, shorts or even skorts are a great alternative to the typical blue jeans which can be quite hot and heavy.
o Short sleeves, even sleeveless tops can help you from becoming too overheated.
o Dresses or skirts can very often be a great choice just remember dance "panties" not "granny panties" are a must! Trust me on this one, they WILL be seen! If you are wearing a dress or skirt, footless tights make for a great alternative to panty hose.
o Keep jewelry to a minimum. Bracelets can often break sending beads scattering across the floor. This can be a real danger. Long necklaces can swing around and hit you or your partner and are also at the risk of breaking. Long dangling earrings can get caught during head loops and large rings can catch on clothing or hair.
o Loose fitting belts can be a problem as they tend to slip around.

Dance

Men:
o While comfort is the main objective, I wouldn't suggest cut off shorts or cut off tee shirts or tank tops.
o If excessive perspiration is a problem, I would suggest an undershirt, no "silky" shirts and maybe a spare or two.
o If you are going to wear a cowboy hat, you will have to remember to make the adjustments to keep your hat from getting knocked right off of the top of you head!
o A nice pair of Dockers' or slacks and a short sleeved shirt looks real nice with dance shoes.
o Jeans are casual and work great, too. I wouldn't suggest a skirt!

What To Wear on a Social Dance Floor

So remember to be practical and comfortable, take into consideration that if you are dancing a lot, you will get hot. Your clothing is as important as your dance shoes and if you know that you are properly clothed, there is will be no reason to worry about a wardrobe malfunction. When you look and feel good, you are sure to have a great night.

What is the Best Exercise For Weight Loss?

It is a common misconception that aerobic exercise tones and firms muscles. Actually it accomplishes very little toning and firming. Resistance exercise (weight training) is where real toning and firming of muscles occurs.

Doing both aerobics and weight training is the optimal way to lose more fat and gain more muscle. If you are trying to lose weight, studies show that weight loss increases by 56 percent with aerobic and strength exercises combined.

Muscle may weigh more, but when you increase your muscle composition, the body is able to burn more fat, even when you are resting, because your metabolism is higher. A pound of muscle will use 350 to 500 calories per week to survive, while a pound of fat only needs about 14 calories per week. New studies have shown that building muscle helps your body fight disease better, too.

What is the Best Exercise For Weight Loss?

Strength training benefits everyone, no matter what age or sex, and is becoming recognized as an important component of fitness. Research is indicating that the muscle loss found in elderly people doesn't come from age, but lack of activity. Even a young person who doesn't get enough exercise can lose muscle mass and strength. Strength training, such as lifting weights or performing weight-resistance exercises, as little as twice a week can help maintain or increase muscle mass.

Strength training involving several sets of multiple repetitions using moderate weights will not result in huge muscles. Instead it builds bone mass and increases the metabolism, as well as toning and firming the muscles, giving a leaner look.

It is very important to do both aerobics and strength exercises. The aerobic exercises help your heart and lungs get stronger and help your body utilize oxygen more efficiently, which in turn helps with strength training and overall fitness. The strength exercise helps develop muscle, reduce body fat and maintain bone mass.

Aerobic Exercise is a type of exercise that elevates the heart rate and breathing for a continuous sustained period. This overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest.

There are many options to choose from today. Bicycling, aerobic dance, swimming, walking, and stepping are all examples of aerobic exercise. Which ones to chose depends on your physical condition, your history, your interests and your goals. Many experts believe it is better to alternate between 2 or more types, to get a better workout.

There are two main types of aerobics- high impact and low impact. It is better to alternate between high impact aerobics (which are harder on the body and may cause more damage) and low impact aerobics, such as walking and swimming. This is called cross-training, and helps reduce the chance or injury and overuse of certain muscles.

You will want to perform aerobic exercises at least 20 minutes a day for at least 3 to 4 days a week. If you are trying to lose body fat, or your physical condition is very good, then you may want to work longer at it. Try exercising up to 40 to 60 minutes 5 to 6 days a week.

Remember there is no real need to go overboard. Moderate intensity is almost always better, and is more enjoyable. Low to moderate intensity is an especially good idea when starting out after a layoff or recovery from illness or injury, or if you are significantly overweight.

Warm-up and cool down is important to reduce discomfort and the chance of injury. Warm up by starting slow and gradually build up to your top speed. Then slow down again at the end of your workout.

The whole idea behind aerobic exercise is to get up and get moving! Find something you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving to a healthier life.

Hemlines rose to the knee in an effort to conserve fabric. Buttons, cuffs, pockets and decorative details like ruffles and lace were used sparingly. Women wore shorter, boxy jackets for a V-shaped silhouette reminiscent of military uniforms. Even Hollywood traded elaborate costumes for simplified designs, a move many claimed lent movies a new air of realism.

Top Ten Fashion Trends From the 1940's

Nylon:

As soon as it was introduced in 1938, women embraced synthetic nylon as a replacement for silk stockings. In the early 1940s, however, with silk already diverted to the war effort, the government recognized similar uses for nylon and commandeered it as well. Women responded by coating their legs in tan makeup and drawing lines up the backs of their calves to mimic seams. By the time the war ended and stockings returned to store shelves, nylon had become a generic term for hosiery.

Swing skirts.

The swing skirt had a round cut designed to look best in full jitterbug twirl. Swing skirts were a common sight on USO dance floors as young women danced with uniformed men to the jazzy horns that characterized the Big Band Era. Housewives were known to wear a more conservative version of the swing dress, sometimes in polka-dot or tiny floral prints.

Hats:

Hats became one of the few ways to express individual style with minimal resources. They were worn in a wide range of styles and personalized with scraps of foil, sequins, netting, paper and string.

Hair and makeup:

Hairstyles became more elaborate as women sought ways to contrast their dull wardrobes. Shoulder length or longer hair was rolled into complex shapes and secured with bobby pins. Screen sirens like Lauren Bacall, Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth popularized side parts and finger waves. Makeup was dramatic, characterized by matte foundation, powder, heavy brows and bright scarlet lips.

Platform pumps:

The wartime shortage of leather and steel forced shoe designers to get more creative and, as a result, shoes were cobbled from materials ranging from crocodile hide to cork. Shoes were more utilitarian than stylish, with low heels and limited color choices. By the mid to late 1940s, platform pumps with high heels in T-straps, ankle straps or open toes had replaced the dowdy wedgie with its flat shape and thick cork soles.

Menswear as womens wear:

A number of men may have spent the first half of the 1940s in uniform, but their civilian clothes came in handy for the women who filled their home-front jobs. Women raided the closets of absent men and tailored the suits to fit themselves. McCalls even introduced a pattern aimed specifically at modifying a masculine suit to fit feminine curves. Suddenly, the sexually ambivalent look pioneered in the late 1930s by Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich was radical no more. The emergence of the dress pattern and electric sewing machine led women to make their own suits from scratch, opting for gabardine due to the scarcity of wool. Many with physically demanding factory jobs soon began wearing practical pants and Rosie the Riveter jeans.

Sweaters:

By the mid-1940s, many women had abandoned the single-piece corset in favor of panties and structured bras that lifted and accentuated the bust line. In 1946, a well-endowed Jane Russell appeared onscreen in a cantilever bra designed by Howard Hughes, prefiguring the bullet-bra 1950s and the reign of the sweater girl. Loose-fitting cardigans were also popular, particularly on college campuses.

Sportswear:

The virtual disappearance of French fashion houses during the war led American designers to explore their own creativity. Designers like Bonnie Cashin and Claire McCardell were instrumental in the creation of sportswear, that singularly American look featuring coordinated separates that could be worn in layers or in various combinations. The trend not only gave women increased options and made it appear as if they had more clothes than they actually did, but also blurred the line between couture and ready-to-wear by showing women they could be both chic and comfortable without spending a fortune.

The New Look:

By the late 1940s, women craved a return to glamor and designers obliged with swirling skirts and shimmering evening gowns inspired by film stars like Ingrid Bergman, Barbara Stanwyck and Joan Crawford.

In 1947, French couturier Christian Dior almost single-handedly brought an end to wartime austerity with a fashion line observers christened the New Look. Severe angles were replaced with curves, hemlines dropped back below the knee and skirts were generously draped. Structured undergarments were key to the New Look, which featured broad shoulders, cinched waists, emphasized bust lines and padded hips. The pencil skirt was a figure-hugging alternative to bouffant skirts. Men, too, longed for freedom from conservative tailoring in khaki and olive drab. They found relief in wide-legged trousers, full-length coats and suits in an array of colors. Both mens and womens trousers featured higher waists, widely cut legs and cuffs and came in textured tweeds and jewel tones.

The New Look met with protest from women who had grown accustomed to baring their legs and were disinclined to cover them back up. Moreover, the opulent, fabric-rich designs seemed wasteful in contrast to wartime fabric restrictions. The desire for change prevailed, however, and the look flourished throughout much of the 1950s.

The History of Bachata


Bachata which literally means "party" is a dance and music style from the Dominican Republic often centered around subjects of heartbreak, romance, and loss. Equivalent to the Blues in the U.S., thematic similarities and resolution are prevalent such as loss of a love and looking for ones self at the bottom of the bottle. The main melody is predominantly played by an electric guitar, which plucks out an eight note pattern. Bachata has had much success in clubs in the last decade. 

This music form had a rough and "nefarious" history. Born in the brothels and bars of the lower class, Bachata shares a common ancestry to Merengue.  Conversely, while the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, was responsible for the overwhelming success of Merengue, the government was also  responsible for the censorship, denigration, and almost extinction of Bachata. Trujillo himself felt Bachata was a backwards, lower art form for  country-people unfit to embolster his nation. After the Trujillo dictatorship ended, censorship feel away and bachata started to flourish again. Yet  high society still resisted its influence; branding bachata as unfit and immoral for society. Irregardless Bachata was still popular amongst the  countryside even as Merengue became highlighted as the Official Music of the country.

Dance

Eventually Bachata permeated through the socio-political barriers and is now a popular music style from the Dominican Republic. Pioneers like Luis  Vargas and Antony Santos were part of the first generation of pop stars for bachata. One of the most popular songs in the style of Bachat is Aventura's  single "Obsesion", which has had worldwide success.
The History of Bachata
The dance, by the same name, which accompanies Bachata music is composed of 4 steps with a tap or pop on the 4th beat. The motion is from side to side  with both a closed and open frame (handhold). The proximity of the partners follows the idea that they are "brushing belt buckles". This can be a much  more intimate dance, and unfortunately has sometimes received a reputation of being "just grinding". The nature of the dance cause some gyrating motions  yet the natural movements of your hips should not be confused with or compared to "grinding". In fact your hips should move in unison, i.e. no grinding,  which comes from opposing motion. Cuban Hip Motion, the underlying technique in this dance, is all about shifting your weight by bending and  straightening your knee such that your hip naturally pops. The movement does not come from a focused attempt at popping ones hip from side to side.
The basic step, starts with partners facing each other. The leader extends his left hand holding the followers right hand and completes the frame by  placing his right hand on the followers back, the follower then drapes her hand on his shoulder. This is the known as the frame (for most latin dances).  The couple mirrors each others footwork as such this explanation will come from the leaders point of view.
The leader steps to his left on 1. On the 2 the leader brings his right foot to meet his left foot. On 3 the leader steps to the left with his left  foot. On the 4 the leader taps his right foot next to his left foot. Next the leader steps to his right on 5. On the 6 the leader brings his left foot  to meet his right foot. On 7 the leader steps to the right with his right foot. On the 8 the leader taps his left foot next to his right foot.
Three things to remember:
1) The follower mirrors the leader's footwork during these steps.
2) There is no crossing of the legs during the basic, traditionally.
3) Remember to get close "Brushing Belt Buckles"; arms length apart is too far away.

Five Steps to Opening Your Own Dance Studio

Opening your own dance studio is an exciting process, but there are certain steps that need to take place to insure success. Sharing your love of dance will take you a long way, but a dance studio is a business, and like any other business, you will need to plan and design diligently, get the word out, and keep things running smoothly once you have opened the doors and are living your dream. The following steps will help you strategize your way to a profitable new dance business venture:

1. Prepare your plan. First, you will need to pick the right location. Naturally, you will want to find a place that is in the commercial center of town, with ample parking. If your studio is located on a busy street in the center of town, you can capitalize on foot traffic, because people will see it when they walk or drive by, especially if you have an eye-catching sign and a nice-looking studio. Consider how much space you will need for dancing, and make sure your studio has good natural light, a restroom, and enough space to create a dressing room and waiting area.

Dance

Decide what type of classes you will want to offer, to which age group(s), and how often, which will help you begin to sketch out a class schedule. Another option is a dance studio franchise, because they can save lots of time and energy by offering their valuable expertise in choosing a location, marketing, and name brand recognition.

2. Design your studio. What sort of look and feel do you want for the dance studio? If you have decided to specialize in teaching ballet classes to young girls, you might paint the studio in feminine pastel colors that young girls adore, like pink or lilac, and decorate with murals, ballet costumes, or inspiring, beautiful dance posters. Whatever your theme, the end goal is to make the studio a place where people will feel comfortable and want to return over and over.

The physical layout of the studio is also important. Most studios have a reception area, where students check in and pay for classes, a changing area, a restroom, and a waiting area for friends and family members to sit and watch class, if they desire. Many studio owners create an area for a boutique that sells dance apparel, dance videos and music, dance equipment and supplies, and dance-related gift items.

A well-planned dance studio requires the proper dance equipment, such as sprung wood flooring, mirrors, and a sound system. If the studio is not already fitted with a dance floor, you will want a spring wood floor. This is a special type of floor that has cushioning to protect dancer's joints, and can be purchased as a kit or professionally installed. Most studios also have floor to ceiling mirrors installed along the front wall of the studio. If you need ballet barres, you can either attach them to the walls or purchase freestanding ballet barres. Your sound system needs to have enough power to fill the space. It should also have a port for instructors to hook in mp3 players or computers that contain playlists for class.

3. Marketing and promotion. Getting the word out is a vital part of getting students. You will need an appealing logo to put on all of your print marketing materials, including business cards, letterhead, brochures and flyers. Be sure to offer new student incentives on all of your marketing materials. New students are much more likely to come to your studio if you offer the first class for free, or give them special discounts.

Be sure to promote online, too. Your studio should definitely have a website with class schedules, pricing, your bio and photos. Consider listing your business with local business directories, schools, and in dance-related directories.

4. Network to increase visibility. A successful dance studio owner knows that a big part of their business involves creating good relationships with their students and the public. Creating community will always help you to find students and help students find out about you. Joining a business network group can add to your business. Other groups, such as parenting groups or church groups can also helpful.

A grand opening with free demonstrations, lectures, and giveaways can help draw attention to your studio. Some instructors offer workshops at community centers, or perform at local events.

5. Keep up with the business of your business. There are several administrative duties for every studio owner. Obviously, bookkeeping is mandatory. Mailing lists, class schedules, and information management can be time-consuming, and many studio owners opt for studio management software to keep track of it all efficiently.

Your music collection is the inspiration that drives your classes, so you will need to keep looking for new music often. Add new songs by searching online for options. Listen carefully to each song before you decide to download the music, and then arrange your songs for each class by creating a playlist on your MP3 player, iPod, or computer.

The Now (Part 2 of 3): Is Your 'Presence' Absent?

Author Eckhart Tolle in his book, "The Power of Now", describes Presence as living fully in the moment, in the Now, without thoughts or feelings of past or future. Guy Finley, best selling author of "The Secret of Letting Go", says, "Being conscious of ourselves in the Present Moment is the key to all things good, not just for the better choices we can make for ourselves (because we can see more possibilities) - but because the more awake we are in the Now, the less likely we are to allow ourselves to be negatively compromised by our own past."

From my own experience, it is a profound state of being. Why? Because it prevents the past and the future from distracting our thoughts. In the incredible Present Moment, we have a clarity that defies description. It is rare for most people to discover the immense power of the experience, and believe me, it can be difficult to hold on to!

Dance

Magical things happen when you are Present. Your chattering mind is not regurgitating the past, nor is it fussing about a conjured up future.

The Now (Part 2 of 3): Is Your 'Presence' Absent?

Have you ever been suddenly struck by the beauty of a sunset, or the dancing sparkles of ice crystals in the sunshine, and just for that moment all thinking seemed to stop - ever so briefly? At that time, in that moment you were Present. Neither the past nor the future held your attention. There was simply a feeling of awe and appreciation.

Imagine being able to revisit that sensation at will. No thoughts of blame or guilt or anger (which are of the Past). No thoughts of doubt, worry or anxiety (which are of the Future). No stress, for it too is an illusion belonging in the future. Feeling stress may seem to be caused by what is going on now, but in fact the stressful situation has already been set up - in the past - and what presents itself is the delusion we create in our minds about the 'how' we'll deal with it. When we think of anything that we are going to have to deal with - that's future.

Only in the Now do we have control. We can choose our destiny in the Present Moment. What thoughts are we allowing in this moment? How are those thoughts affecting our physical body? When you pay attention to these things moment to moment, your Now is the chance you have to make change. Eckhart Tolle places strong emphasis on being deeply within the body to find Presence. Pay close attention to the feelings held in the body. Pay close attention to the inner promptings from inside yourself.

OK, so what do you do with that information? And how does it help you make a happier, more fulfilling life for yourself? Use the Present Moment to accept things as they are, including yourself. This is a surrender that what is simply IS. When you are in acceptance, you have stopped resistance. Resistance holds you back. Resistance limits you.

As soon as you accept all things the way they are, you take off limiting shackles and are much more creative in your thinking. You are able to take responsibility for your own life situation without guilt or blame. Once you are cleared of those hideous emotions, you can focus on the desires you hold most dear.

Having desires for a better future is not at odds with being fully Present in the Now. The Now is your gift from God, or the Universe, or All That Is, to lovingly plan, gratefully receive and fearlessly take action. Fear is based in the future. It is a delusion of what might happen. It has no life in the Present except that which you give it.

Faith is made of the same stuff as fear. It is yet another delusion about something happening in the future. Yet, Faith creates an entirely different physiological response in the body. Monitor your thoughts and your bodily reactions in the Now and you have your clue as to what your plans and actions should be.

The ego-mind wants to be right. It wants to defend itself, to blame and hold grudges. The ego-mind wants bigger, better, and more than others have. It wants control. It compares and judges to prove its worth. It will not willingly oblige when you flick the off-switch.

By this time, you can understand why it is so difficult to remain Present. The mind is constantly cluttering up the Now with thoughts of past and future. Use the Present Moment to focus on the needs of the present only, and you will glimpse the contentment and sense of peace that comes with feeling your Being and Awake to the possibilities for your life.

What you do and what you think in every Now is the destiny you are creating for yourself. The inherent beauty in each Moment is that you have the power to choose the wonders of your next Moment. Living in the Now is where happiness is born.

Fifth Grade Science Projects That Rock

A Fifth Grade Science Project can be one of the most fun school projects that a parent and child can do together. Here are some really good science project ideas that our family has done. The projects are easy to do, yet they meet the requirements of most science fairs and most fifth grade teachers. Check out the ideas, and find out how to get step by step instructions at the end of this article.

These are investigative science projects, which involve a science experiment:

Dance

o Does the shape of ice affect melting time? Use the same amount of water, place into different shaped containers and freeze. Then see how much time each piece of ice takes to melt.

Fifth Grade Science Projects That Rock

o Which toilet tissue is most biodegradable? Take samples of different types of toilet tissue, and soak them until they fall apart. Run the samples through a strainer, and see which sample leaves the most paper undissolved.

o Which citrus fruit has the most Vitamin C? Make an indicator solution with iodine and starch (it's EASY to do!), and test samples of citrus fruit or juice to see which one has the most vitamin C.

o Which brand cereal stays crunchy longest? Weigh different brands of the same cereal, soak in water, and then weigh again to see which one absorbed more water.

These are demonstration science projects - when your teacher wants you to demonstrate a scientific principle to the class.

o Demonstrate that yeast gives of gas. Place a yeast and sugar solution into a bottle, put a balloon on top, and watch the yeast give off gas so that the balloon blows up!

o Demonstrate how static electricity works. Make a ball of aluminum foil dance between your finger and a pie plate. Watch this one on www.youtube.com/watch

o Demonstrate how chemical reactions can be sped up. Put alka seltzer into a cup, and watch it fiz. Then do it again with crushed alka seltzer, another time with warm water, and yet another time with TWO alka seltzers.

So you and your committee are looking for ideas for your homecoming, dance, or party. Your themes depend mostly on the traditions of your school. Try to tie in what your school mascot. If your party or dance is something more casual, then it may be predetermined. The basic ingredients for successful school homecoming dance are music, hype, and energy. 4 Physique Types - Swimmers Body, Dancers Body, Gymnasts Body and Runners Body

When someone thinks of their dream body type, they often use popular sports physique types to describe it. It isn't uncommon to hear someone compare a mans build to that of a linebacker, or a womans build to that of a dancer. I am going to discuss in detail four types of athletic physiques.

The Swimmers Body: Look no further than record breaking Olympic Gold Medalist - Michael Phelps to find the picture perfect description of a swimmers body (for a man of course). His torso is lean and tone, with well defined (but not bulky) muscles. For men, the swimmer's body type has broad shoulders, a medium to long torso and a flat as a board abdomen. What sets apart the swimmers body from other athletic types is the noticeable lean-ness of their physique and broadness of their shoulders. There long bodies combined with great posture makes for a regal effect. Ironically enough, a swimmers body type for women is a bit different. They too have well defined muscles, but because it shows mostly in their shoulders, triceps and biceps - it can come across as a little too broad or bulky. But trust there is nothing bulky about the female swimmers body - like most women athletes, the training of a swimmer leads to muscle development that the average woman never experiences.

Dance

The Gymnast's Body: It's usually easy to spot the trained gymnast - just look for the person that's usually short in height, with long muscular legs and a short torso. Though male gymnasts are taller than female gymnasts (of course), generally speaking - gymnasts tend to be shorter than the average. Their strength is in their legs and upper body, so bulky muscular thighs, calves, biceps and triceps are not uncommon. This becomes even more noticeable in female gymnasts.Taller gymnasts, particularly female gymnasts tend to have leaner muscle definition. Most female gymnasts also have boxy hips and shoulders.

The Dancer's Body: The dancer's body type can be identified by defined calves and thighs, a long or straight torso (often emphasized by great posture) and lean muscular arms. In men, the waist line tends to be thinner and in women, the back/lower back is noticeably toned. Now this is just a general description - there are so many types of dance that bring strength and definition to different muscles in the body. For example, someone trained in ballet will have a taller and leaner looking physique, whereas someone trained in tap will have more definition in their lower legs.

The Track Runner's Body: The sprinter track athlete's body type is hands down the most muscular of them all and this goes for both men and women. This changes for long distance runners. Track athletes who run in cross country events have a leaner and longer muscle. The sprinter's body type is what comes to the mind of most people when they think of a track athlete. Their muscles in their legs are extremely well defined, from the calves, to the quads and including the glutes. Theirs is a body type built for speed.
